Service Unlimited has a long-standing relationship with educational institutions throughout Delaware. In late 2021, a local private school came to us with a problem: they had an existing boiler and radiant heat system, but no air conditioning.
This was becoming a real issue. It got to the point where it started affecting their enrollment numbers. As a result, Service Unlimited was tasked with designing and installing a heating and air conditioning system for the entire school. However, there was a major challenge—the entire project had to be completed during the 10-week window of summer break.
Our expert engineers quickly got to work and performed an initial evaluation of the building. We came to realize that a forced-air, ducted system was out of the question, since there was very little space above the ceiling.
Luckily, SUI found a creative solution with Carrier VRF systems to simultaneously provide heating and cooling to each room. To maximize energy efficiency, we broke the school into three separate zones. Altogether, the three zones added up just over 30,000 square feet. SUI provided 76 tons of heating and air conditioning to 36 indoor fan coil units throughout the school.
Additionally, because of the short timeframe to complete the work, our team had to plan every phase of the project down to each minute detail. With 42 pieces of mechanical equipment, over 3,000 feet of piping, and hundreds of feet of wiring, our installation team had to maintain a high-level of attention to detail to meet the deadline. And they did.
This was a unique, time-sensitive, and challenging project, but it was no match for the experts at SUI. Thanks to our innovative solutions, precise craftsmanship, and attention to detail, we were able to exceed the school’s expectations. Service Unlimited’s quality of work didn’t go unnoticed, either, as we received a 2022 ABC Delaware Excellence in Construction Award for the project.
